Interning at the ANCA is not easy, but that does not mean that it is not fun. These past few months have been very hectic, but realizing it is almost over makes me a bit sad. I did not really understand what exactly the ANCA was about until I was involved every day answering calls, going to events, and making sure everything I am doing is correct. The next intern class will be over the summer, and I know that there are going to be many interesting events that will keep everyone in the office occupied.
Every time someone asks me how is the internship, I answer, “It is interesting.” I am going to repeat that this internship is not easy, but it is one of the best experiences. If you apply to this internship, I definitely guarantee that you will enjoy all of it. But this internship does require dedication, and if you don’t have time and patience, then you will have a hard time.
When I applied to this internship, I did not realize that I would enjoy working here so much. I remember when I was so scared of answering the phone because so many different people called. I think I still am a bit scared of answering phone calls since we don’t always have all the answers to every person’s question.
Each day there is a new challenge and new obstacles to overcome. It may be something as easy as doing a media report and something as complicated as answering a phone call from someone who is angry. In the latter situation, my best advice is to stay calm no matter what and be nice.
The one day that I think was very hard was April 24. Each year I would go to the march in little Armenia, and I would be done for the day. This year I had to participate in three different events. There was so much going on, but I have to say again I am so glad to have been there and helping out instead of what I do every year.
I believe that each and every one of us should be doing something to help the Armenian Cause. If you are young, one of the ways to help out is by participating in an internship. I think that this internship is an amazing opportunity to really understand what the ANCA does and how much American politics matters.
Don’t forget that the deadline to turn in your application is MAY 25. If you are interested, then scroll up and click on the link that says “Internship Program.” Good luck.
P.S. Deadlines are a big deal at the ANCA.
